Since 2020, PD Dr Austermann has been the head of department of the Clinic for Vascular Surgery at the St Franziskus Hospital Münster. The clinic treats more than 350 aortic pathologies per year and more than 2000 patients with all vascular pathologies per year. Endovascular treatment is one of the main focus areas of the clinic. Before 2020, PD Dr Austermann was the senior consultant and leader of endovascular aortic repair for 10 years. Complex aortic repair with fenestrated and branched endografts was his main focus. His scientific areas of focus are the studies of complex aortic repair and bench tests of covered stents using bridging stentgrafts or for occlusive vascular disease.
