Professional Bio

Qualified from the University of Leicester in 1991. He trained in Leicester, Southampton and Portsmouth and was involved in the early development of EVAR within the UK, work that led to his MD thesis. He undertook a year of endovascular training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital prior to his appointment as Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge in 2002. He has active research interests in EVAR, outcome modelling and renal injury in vascular surgery, publishing extensively on these topics. He established an endovascular service for ruptured aneurysms in Cambridge. He is the current President of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland (2021-2022) and served as British Society of Endovascular Therapy President from 2013-2015. He is Senior Editor elect of European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and also a long-standing member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Endovascular Therapy. Furthermore he is enthusiastic about post-graduate training, he served as Training Programme Director for Core Surgical Training in the East of England from 2007-2012 and Chairman of the Vascular Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC) overseeing vascular training in the UK and Ireland from 2015-2018. He is an Affiliate Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Cambridge. He is the immediate past Chair of the Audit and QI Committee of the Vascular Society and was the driving force behind the Peripheral Arterial Disease Quality Improvement Framework (PAD-QIF) and collection of aortic device data within the National Vascular Registry. This work has led to his recent appointment as Chair of the Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology Steering Group for the NHS Medical Devices Safety Programme.
